“It goes back to the Doomsday Book”
On Easter Monday, two villages in sleep Leicestershire go head-to-head in a game that’s said to be the origins of modern-day rugby. Fighting over a cask of ale; there’s no rules, no referee – just village pride powering through muddy fields.
Welcome to Bottle Kicking.
Screening at Sheffield Doc Fest in 2025, Scrum & Scramble also took home the Audience Award at The Unit in 2026.
Bottle Kicking is a centuries old tradition between Hallaton and Medbourne – two rival villages in Leicestershire for whom this game is literally a matter of life and death.
Whilst still touring festivals, you can get a flavour of the film here.
