25% increased footfall at Ripon Museums

Ahead of a £3m investment into the site, the Ripon Workhouse Museum needed to reintroduce itself to local audiences. Despite its historical significance as a Grade II-listed building, awareness among Ripon residents was low. With the important summer months on the horizon, the museum was struggling to reach people and risked a bad summer of ticket sales.

After a short strategy talk with the Comms team, it was clear that we needed a focused campaign that spoke to both young people online and also the parents who would bring them.

It’s really important to have these conversations about the why. Video shouldn’t be the end result – it’s a vehicle that takes you from problem to solution. We just happen to be very good drivers.

Rather than one standalone video that would sit on their website and get lost, we opted for a video asset refresh that was tailored towards their ultimate goal – developing a campaign of videos in conjunction with a realigned social media strategy that sat alongside their new trail, Get to Work.

Inspired by a popular series that showed the horrible side of history, the video assets brought a flavour of Victorian life directly into people’s homes in a fun and engaging way.

They showed the museum as modern, refreshing, and importantly accessible. Ripon Museum Trust saw a 25% increase in footfall that summer – the perfect momentum to carry them through an exciting period of restoration and regeneration.

Heritage sites across England are increasingly choosing to use video production as a way to engage audiences, drive footfall, and improve credibility with younger audiences.

Thank you so much for all your great work, patience, flexibility and all-round meganess – the video is wonderful and I’m really happy with where we landed.
